Worked as an assistant at the Christchurch Youth Hostel Association (YHA) hostel, supporting daily operations at this busy urban hostel that served as a gateway for international backpackers exploring New Zealand's South Island.

Assisted with front desk operations including guest check-ins and check-outs, provided travel information and recommendations for exploring Christchurch and the Canterbury region, and helped coordinate bookings for onward travel throughout New Zealand. Supported housekeeping and facility maintenance, ensuring dormitories and common areas remained clean and welcoming for the constant flow of international travelers.

Engaged with a diverse community of backpackers from around the world, helping create the friendly, social atmosphere that YHA hostels were known for during the height of independent travel in the early 1990s. This role provided valuable experience in international hospitality and customer service while working in one of New Zealand's key tourist hubs during an exciting era of global backpacker culture.
